Professor Louise Richardson was installed as Oxford’s 272nd Vice-Chancellor on 12th January. As is customary on major University occasions, Academic IT’s Educational Media Services team was on hand to film the proceedings.
In her admission speech Professor Richardson singled out advances in technology as one of the three principal challenges facing the University from the outside. She noted how today’s students arrive at University fully networked and accustomed to instant access to information on the internet. She also commented that, despite the opportunities for personalisation made possible by technology, personal contact between staff and students remains at the heart of Oxford’s teaching. And we know, from our digital experience research, that this is what students value too. Even so, as Professor Richardson commented,
‘technology will transform how we operate … We must always remain open to the potential of new technologies and have the agility to exploit the opportunities they present us.’
