digital literacy

From this week’s HEFCE review of JISC:
ICT systems include the human dimension: how the staff and students make use of them, and how institutions as a whole adopt them and evolve with their use. One of the underpinning needs is improving digital literacy, highlighted both by those who responded to the consultation, and by many other reviews and reports, including the Online Learning Task Force.
Students’ experience of ICT may vary considerably, and there is a particular challenge in managing and meeting their expectations across the diverse FE and Skills sector. In many cases, their knowledge and expectations will exceed those of staff.

I really do think any university staff development unit not actively targetting digital literacy for academic staff should hang its head in shame.
