fishing for matches

Oxford University email users are subject to repeated spam and phishing attacks every week. Teams in IT Services do their best to block attacks and urge users not to respond.

“The University is targeted by phishing campaigns and if only a handful of end users are tricked into giving away their login credentials then that could result in the global address list being compromised as well.”

Nonetheless, some people always do.  Mostly, the spam comes with promises of quick wealth or improved sexual performance. This month it’s all about quick essays and subverting academic integrity.

You can read about how this approach has been successful in prompting responses from Oxford users in this article in the Oxford Student.

“we are just waiting to get replies from every one for now.”
