The IT Services Research Support team contributes to and supports a range of resources for researchers across the University.
Research Data Oxford (RDO) is the University’s central advisory service for all matters related to research data management. The RDO website offers guidance on a range of topics including data management planning, working with data during a project, preserving and sharing data, and University and funder data policies. Researchers and support staff can also email email@example.com for personalised advice, to request feedback on a data management plan, or to arrange a consultation.
The RDO team is a cross-departmental group, drawn from the Research Support team, the Bodleian Libraries, Research Services, and the academic divisions.
The University of Oxford has a contract with LabArchives for the provision of electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) to all Oxford researchers, including graduate students. LabArchives is a secure and flexible web-based system, which offers an alternative to the traditional paper lab notebooks used to keep a formal record of research. The LabArchives service is managed by the Research Support team.
DigiSafe provides secure archiving for digital material which needs to be preserved, potentially for a decade or more. Departments and colleges that wish to use the service pay an annual fee, and then have access to their own dedicated space. The DigiSafe service is managed by the Research Support team.
The Survey Advice Service aims to help researchers select the most appropriate online platform for running a survey, and provides guidance on other issues that need to be considered, such as data protection. Basic feedback on surveys is also available. The service is based in the Research Support team.
The Interactive Data Network (IDN) supports University of Oxford researchers in designing and developing data visualisations of research datasets. The IDN is managed by the Research Support team.
Members of the Research Support team regularly teach courses for IT Services’ IT Learning Centre. The courses available vary each term: more details and booking information can be found in the ITLC’s course catalogue.
Reproducible Research Oxford (RROx) is the local network of the UK Reproducibility Network, focused on advancing the open research agenda at Oxford. Members of the Research Support team contribute to RROx activities, including serving on RROx’s Steering Group.
Over the years, members of the Research Support team have also been involved in a wide array of other services and projects. Details of some of these can be found in the Project Archive.
