This summer, Jisc ran its second Summer of Student innovation. Via the Jisc Elevator, students can pitch their idea to improve the student experience using technology. Successful projects receive £5000 and mentorship over the summer to develop and realise their idea. Around 20 projects were received funding this year, covering student induction, study tools, learner feedback, and open access. Some of the successful projects included Open Access Button, Lingoflow, and Vet-Revise.
For the second year running, members of Research Support were invited to attend the SOSI Summer School events, providing advice and guidance on technical implementation, legal issues and business models to the projects. Advice provided this year included introducing version control, good software engineering practices, identifying potential commercial partners, exploring different sustainability options and business models, and assessing technical feasibility of software designs.
