Excluding Quotes in Originality Reports

The exclude quotes feature in Originality Reports reduces the noise in similarity matches so instructors can better evaluate the level of originality in assignments. Many instructors, however, choose to leave quoted materials highlighted to assess the paper’s originality in its entirety.

Turnitin makes it easy to exclude quoted text when viewing the Originality Report:

1. Click on the filters and settings icon (the funnel icon near the bottom of the sidebar)
2. Check the “Exclude Quotes” filter
3. Click “Apply Changes”

Visit the Help Center to learn more about how to Exclude Quotes.
